The Japan Institute for National Fundamentals (JINF) held the first Terada Mari Japan Study Award presentation ceremony on July 8 at the Nippon Press Center in Tokyo. Professor Kevin Doak of Georgetown University, the US, was one of four recipients of the award which was inaugurated by the JINF to help deepen understanding of Japan in the international community. Prof Doak received US $10,000 for his outstanding academic theses on Catholicism, Shintoism and nationalism including “A History of Nationalism in Modern Japan: Placing the People.” Japan Study Special Award winner Prof Liu from China also received US$10,000 for his literary work titled “Zhou Zuoren-Intellectual History of a Litterateur Well-Versed in Japanese Culture.”
Co-winners of Japan Study Encouragement Award ,Associate Prof. Palmer from South Carolina and Prof Molodiakov from Russia received US$5,000 respectively.
The award was named after Ms Terada who donated one million US dollars to the JINF last year.
