Japan&India:Democracies Joining Hands for Security and Stability in Asia and the Pacific
A Symposium Jointly Held by JINF and VIF
The Japan Institute for National Fundamentals (JINF) and its Indian partner, Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) held a two-day study meeting on security in Asia and the Pacific at the JA Kyousai Building in Hirakawacho, Tokyo, on June 3 and 4, 2012.
The first day and the first half of the second day session was a closed meeting among panelists of the two institutions. The afternoon session of the second day was open to the public. Taking part in the two-day session were, from the Indian side, Mr. Ajit Doval, director of the the VIF, Ambassador Prabhat P. Shukla, joint director of the VIF, General (ret.)N.C.Vij, and Vice-Admiral (ret.)Rahman Puri. On the Japanese side were Ms.Yoshiko Sakurai, president of the JINF, Dr.Tadae Takubo, vice-president of the JINF, Yoichi Shimada, professor at the Fukui Prefectural University and JINF planning committee member, Ambassador Hiroshi Hirabayashi and Rear Admiral (ret.) Sumihiko Kawamura.
At the start of the afternoon session of the second day, former prime minister Shinzo Abe, of the Liberal Democratic Party, delivered a congratulatory speech calling for strengthening Japan-India bilateral cooperation. Among those who attended the symposium partially were Vice-Minister of Defense Shu Watanabe, Professor Yoshihiko Yamada of Tokai University, Colonel (ret.) Hiroshi Ito, a cyber expert, and Vice-Admiral (ret.) Hideaki Kaneda, director of the Okazaki Institute.
